About

Runaleiks borns in July 2015 as a result of an old dream of its members to sing the old deeds of the Goths in their own language, or at least the language is known to us. The first sign that it is saved is translating Ulfilas Bible dating from the fourth century, and is the only East Germanic language with a significant corpus. For all others, including Burgundian and Vandal, there are indications of its existence only by names that have survived in historical accounts.

But the Bible is not enough...

The biggest frustration for any gothic folklorist is the complete absence of a literary corpus on the true story of the Goths, either through poetry and historiography (excusing the work of Casiodorus / Jordanes). As Arthur A. Jones writes in his book "The Goths, children of the storm" : Only Romans and Greeks wrote about them. This lack of poetry and legend is only supplied by academic speculation, through various disciplines such as history, archeology and linguistics, while on the other hand we have the Mozarabic chant (Or better said, the Visigothic Chant), it is the liturgical plainchant repertory of the Mozarabic rite of the Roman Catholic Church, related to the Gregorian chant. It is primarily associated with Hispania under Visigothic rule (mainly in what was to become modern Spain) and with the Catholic Mozarabs living under Muslim rule.

So, why not invent  those songs, the poetry, these praises of the deeds of ancient Gutones, Gutar, Gautar, Jutes, Geats, Goths, or any of the theophoric names by which are known through space and time? Why performing such feats should be only part of a distant past? perhaps other sources of songs of other Germanic peoples (or not) are not also legends? Or this distance in time makes them more legitimate?
For us, and some others, the answers to these questions are obvious...

And why not do it with the strongest and more powerful musical style that exists? The one who uses the primary power of God Thunar? We do not know how best to express an epic that spans over (probably) a thousand years, and a legend that extends more than that amount of time, until nowadays. There are artists who use Old English , some others are using  Old Norse and other dead languages. Thus, today, the sons of Gaut, sing their most remote and revered relatives. The ring  shines again, The ring keeps moving...

Gutani o wihailag.
We hope you enjoy it.
